January 2009

Home Sweet Home This term P1 and 2 have been studying houses and homes. They have taken photographs of houses on the Lisnagrot Road, built houses during play time and read stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and the Three Little Pigs. All about Me P3 and 4 have been learning about their bodies and how they grow. They are exploring the five senses and what it might be like if any were absent. The story of Helen Keller has made them think about what it must be like to be blind and deaf and they have tried out some sign language. Sky High This month P5 and 6 have been investigating different kinds of buildings and structures. They have discovered which materials can be used, how they are designed and are now researching famous landmarks and architects from around the world. Turning Japanese The P7s have been extremely busy researching facts and figures for a project on Japan. January News 2007

Kilrea Primary School newsletter from January 2007. New Schools for P 7 - All of the P.7 pupils went to see High Schools in the last two weeks. Some Headmasters also came to talk to the P7 about their schools. They have started a business to make cards and hopefully make a profit for their Industry Challenge. Also they are taking part in press Packers organised by the Belfast Telegraph. Phoenix Harp and Flute Duo - On 30th January two players from the Ulster Orchestra brought their harp (above) and flute to entertain the P3 to 7 classes. They played songs about water and the pupils got the chance to join in with percussion instruments. The pupils also learnt the song “Over the Sea to Skye” to sing with them. Leah got a chance to play the harp which cost £20 000 New pupils - Enrolment for next year in P1 has now closed and we hope to have twelve new pupils next year. SNOW JOKE - IT'S ALMOST CHRISTMAS As the temperatures drop and winter is upon us, it’s time for the usual Christmas festivities. The end of term is busy so don’t forget the big events coming up in the next couple of days. Wednesday 19th December is CHRISTMAS DINNER DAY. £2.30 for turkey with all the trimmings. It’s a bargain. Wednesday 19th December is also the CAROL SERVICE in St Patrick’s Parish Church at 7.30 pm. All family and friends are welcome to join us. Full uniform please—shirts, ties, navy skirts or trousers and black shoes. There is some spare uniform in the box in the hall but it will be first come first served. Thursday 20th December is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. We hope Santa will have time to pop in and school ends at 12.15 p.m. No uniform today.
