Beetle Mania
On Thursday 22nd October it was Beetle-mania in school. However there was no sign of the Fab 4. Instead we were shaking dice and drawing beetles of all shapes and sizes. Following the short AGM, where the new PTA committee was elected, the parents joined us for an all out battle. Prizes were awarded for the most complete beetles as well as the fanciest. We must say thanks, once again, for coming along and giving your support to a fun evening.
International News
The European Day of Languages was celebrated on Friday 25th September with games and activities using as many different languages as possible. This is now an annual event, one of the many which have helped us gain our International Award for another 3 years.
Miss Steele and Mrs Young travelled to Londonderry, along with Leon, Shannon and Madison from P7, to accept the award. We love to learn about other countries and cultures so if you or anyone you know has been travelling please contact Miss Steele as we would love you to come and share your experiences with us.
Eco-Matters
The eco-committee have had a very busy first half-term. The term began with the harvesting of our produce and our vegetable honesty box. All the proceeds will go towards other eco-projects. The Cash for Clobber was collected and there will be another collection in the spring. New planters have appeared at the school entrance and are ready for autumn and winter. Bryson House also came to school on 22nd October and gave a great presentation on how to save energy.
On Tuesday 20th October we marked World Food Day with activities to remind us how some people in the world do not have enough to eat, while we have too much and to make us think of ways not to waste food.
Please keep collecting old newspapers, magazines and ink cartridges, and deposit them in the collection boxes in the entrance hall, as all these can be recycled to raise cash for the school and various charities.
Bits and Bobs
This term we have had visitors from Zomba, Denise came to talk to us about the African Children's Choir who are visiting Kilrea in December and the Uslter Scots Society who are running taster sessions for Key Stage 2. So far we have had country dancing, bagpipes, tin whistles, fiddles and and drama.
Thanks again for your generous contributions to the Wings Appeal the British Legion Poppy Appeal and our Zomba Shoe collection.
Good Luck
Good luck to those P7 pupils who are sitting tests in the next few weeks and to all the Mums and Dads who will be having a few stressful Saturday mornings as well!
