Class Updates
P1&2 have been learning about the story of creation, harvesting our vegetables and thanking God for our food. They have also been looking at how we grow and change.
P3&4 have been studying the Second World War and have used ration recipes to bake carrot cookies. They have also been imagining what it would be like to be in an airraid.
P5,6 & 7 are currently studying Northern Ireland. P7 have been researching famous people and NI landmarks while P5&6 have been investigating the Mesolithic settlement at Mountsandel via the website.
P4-7 have also begun their INCAS tests on the computers and the results will be available at the parent interviews.
Water Babies
Following the closure of Maghera pool P5 & 6 pupils have moved to Ballymoney pool for swimming lessons. They have been enjoying exploring the new facilities but swimming a length of this pool takes an awful lot more energy!
Meet the Teacher
Our second ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening was held on Thursday 17th September. This was an ideal opportunity to discuss class routines and ask questions about school as well as catch up with other parents. Many thanks to all those who provided tea, coffee and biscuits.
Extra Curricular Activities
We have had several new ventures this year. Our Tuesday After-School Club began with an art class and pupils are trying out traditional crafts and painting a new mural in the entrance hall.
At dinner time they have been getting active by trying their hands (and feet) at hip hop dancing in preparation for the PTA evening.
We also have a new addition to our violin, brass and woodwind tuition with the arrival of Miss Rosborough who teaches music, speech and drama to individual pupils on a Friday morning.
Next year we’ll be entering ‘Britain’s Got Talent’!
Welcome to the World
We have been spreading our wings with the continuation of work for our Comenius Project. We also organised a special assembly and games to celebrate European Day of Languages.
These are just two of the activities which have helped us gain the International School Award, which we hold for the next three years, and we welcomed some very special visitors on Tuesday 22nd, to present us with our flag, including the Awards Manager himself, Mr John Rolfe.
On Monday 28th we welcomed some more international visitors when the Rock Ministries brought Mwamba Choir from Uganda. The children enjoyed Mrs Gordon’s scones before a quick game of football and they still had the energy to dance, sing and play instruments. Many thanks to all those who joined us for the performance and for the many donations, which came to a total of £200.
Charity
Our charity ventures for the year continued with a staff coffee morning which raised £110 in aid of the Northern Ireland Hospice and the selling of pins for the Wings Appeal.
Kidz & Co.
Kilrea Primary’s Mothers and Toddlers group will begin on Wednesday 7th October from 10 am -12 noon.
If you have pre-school children please come along, have a cuppa and catch up with other Mums and Dads whilst the kids play.
