Just like Mother Makes
Everyone in the school has been going cooking crazy over the last few weeks. Inspired by P3 & 4’s carrot cookies P1 & 2 have been baking shortbread and Key Stage 2 classes have rounded off their topic on Northern Ireland by making oatmeal biscuits, wheaten bread and vegetable soup.

P7 have had two talks from Officer Gillan, the Community Policeman on firework safety and farm safety. He reminded us about the firework code and how to use sparklers safely, as well as pointing out the dangers that can be found in a modern farmyard.
Bob Rees came in to talk to P3&4 about the 2nd world war and we also had a visit from two army medics who certainly earned their stripes by talking to P1&2 about first aid and then to P3&4 about army life.
We also had some musical visitors in the form of the Young Zulu Warriors who performed traditional songs and dances from Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa.
Dance Yourself Dizzy!
This year’s PTA AGM took place on Thursday 22nd October and while the adults exercised their right to vote, the pupils exercised their bodies with Scottish country dancing and the Spanish jive! When all the business was done the adults were entertained with poetry recitations and song and dance routines, courtesy of the pupils. A few brave souls even joined in to shake their tail feather for everyone else’s amusement.
The car boot sale and craft fair took place on Saturday 24th October and despite the wet and windy weather the crowds turned out in force. This is the first time we have held this event, and it was most successful raising £363.50 for the PTA, £191 for the Eco Project and the P7s raised over £200 for the Mwamba Choir through their fireside quiz and guessing the number of sweets in a jar. Many thanks to all those who donated items for the Eco stall or who came along to purchase, and a special thanks to the PTA who provided the tea and coffee to warm us all up.
GOAL!
The first football fixture of the year was held in Kilrea and our team made a good start to the 4 day tournament, coming top with three wins and a draw. Good luck boys for the next outing!

This year our Spanish lessons have been continuing with our new language assistant, Christina. The pupils have also been working on projects to exchange with our 4 partner schools, including a DVD of our favourite sports and games and an information booklet on Kilrea and the surrounding area.
Points Make Prizes
Well done to Movanagher, the winning house for September.
Fancy dress Frenzy
The half-term came to an end with our fancy dress day. As cowboys, witches and other strange creatures roamed the corridors, we took part in lots of team challenges and activities to earn points for our three houses.
