New Arrivals
This year we welcomed 10 new P1s into Mrs Cooper’s class and the P2s have been helping to teach them all about school. Everyone also enjoyed a visit to the park to learn how the rides work and to choose their favourite. When they came back they then made their own rides out of junk.
Home Sweet Home
P3 and 4 have been learning about different kinds of houses and what they are built from. They took photographs of some houses on the Lisnagrot Road before building them in play time and making them out of paper in art.
Rock ‘n’ Roll
This month P5 and 6 have been very busy learning about rocks, fossils and volcanoes. They have examined different kinds of rock, sketched fossils and used maps to find volcanoes around the world. They have also been completing their Incas tests.
Knowing Me, Knowing You
P7s began their introductions to Mrs Stinson by talking and writing about themselves as well as painting self portraits. In between their revision for the transfer test they have also been looking at rocks and volcanoes and have planted seeds in the school grounds.
Vive la Difference!
On European Day of Languages we had lots of fun trying to speak French, Spanish, Italian & German. At dinner time Mrs Gordon made us lovely food on a Euro theme which we had to try and order in French. Pizza was a top seller. Then in clubs we had a Euro quiz between the houses on food, football, cars, flags etc. Everyone did very well and Portna were the eventual winners.
Pipe Dreams
On Friday 12th September we had two visitors, Mr Alan Dempsey and Mr Rodney Wilson, from Kilrea Pipe Band who showed us how to play the bagpipes and even let us have a go. They also invited anyone who wanted to learn to come along on Wednesday nights and join the band.
Getting to Know You
On Thursday 25th September Mr McCormick began our ‘Getting to know you night’ by inviting our new Principal, Mrs Stinson, to introduce herself. Everyone then had the chance to make a few introductions of their own and to talk to the class teachers about routines for the new school year. This very enjoyable night began and ended with refreshments provided by the PTA whilst the retiring Chairman, Mr David Laughlin, issued an open invitation to come along to the AGM on Thursday 23rd October.
Points Make Prizes
Once again loads of points have been clocking up for all the houses for good work and good behaviour and well done to Movanagher who are this month’s winning house.
Don’t Forget!
We’ll all be ‘In the pink’ this Friday when we dress up to raise money for Breast Cancer.
Parent Interviews will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the 20th-22nd October. If you haven’t returned a note of your preferred dates and wish to make an appointment please contact the relevant teacher.
This half term ends at 12.15 on Tuesday 28th October with a fancy dress day. Wear what you like!
